Christy Pilkintonís workshop format includes demonstrations in oil and pastel, color, study of the Old Masters, professional portrait procedure, posing and lighting of models, choosing painting positions, arrangement of materials and easel, canvas preparation. She also covers methods of painting (masses, values, color, texture, etc.), methods of observing and understanding color, color mixing in oil & its application to pastel, portrait palettes of the Old Masters and Impressionists revealed, professional portrait artistís palette explained and discussed. Pastel instruction included mastering pastels, choice of materials, types of surfaces, techniques, framing, composition, pricing, working from photographs, promotion and critique of artists work.
